Partner in new digital series Global Flyways

We are a partner in Global Flyways, a new digital series on migratory bird routes developed by BirdLife International. BirdEyes is providing the content for one episode focusing on the Wadden Sea area.

Global Flyways highlights the four main land routes alongside the marine flyways. The series shows how birds cover vast distances each year and the pressures they face: habitat loss, climate change, illegal persecution, and expanding infrastructure. Almost 40% of migratory species are under threat.

Case studies, expert interviews and visual explanations illustrate what is at stake. The series also features the work being carried out globally to protect areas such as Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) and Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs). Both local initiatives and international decision-making are included.

Content agency Content With Purpose manages the full production process, from planning and filming to editing and digital release. BirdEyes provides the content expertise to ensure the Wadden Sea is presented accurately as a crucial area for migratory birds. For this episode, the script will be developed in December and January. Filming will take place in spring 2026. The series will premiere in September 2026 during BirdLife International’s Global Flyways Summit in Nairobi.

Centre for global ecological change at the University of Groningen

Birdeyes is a science and creative centre that views the world - almost literally - through the eyes of birds. More and more birds are flying around with tiny transmitters, loggers and other high technology on their backs and legs. This generates an unimaginable amount of information. By cleverly combining such data with other sources of information, and by using new ways to tell stories and share the insights with, BirdEyes strives to open up a new knowledge network. The centre at the Faculties of Science & Engineering and Campus Fryslân aims to be an innovative part of the University of Groningen and is linked to the Rudolph Agricola School for Sustainable Development. BirdEyes, with empirical and inspirational roots in the farthest corners of the world.
