Thomas Oudman
Oct 27 2023 (15:00-17:00)
BirdEyes (Zaailand 110 Leeuwarden)
Description:
In times of ecological breakdown a growing number of scientists feel compelled to speak truth to power. But the line between science and activism is increasingly blurred. How can we imagine alternate futures without compromising scientific integrity? In his book ‘Out of the shit’ Thomas Oudman – an inspiring scientist turned journalist – exposed inconvenient truths about the Dutch nitrogen crisis, and envisioned what radical changes are needed to ensure a sustainable future for nature ánd farmers in the Netherlands. Through a short presentation and an extensive Q&A, Thomas will relate his experience and struggles in writing his thought-provoking book, and we’ll reflect on the role of scientists in shaping public discourse in times of growing polarisation.
